熊谷にはうちわ祭と呼ばれる大きなお祭りがあり、英語で「ファンフェスティバル」と訳されています。 うちわ祭は埼玉で最大の祭りのひとつとされています。 ライブショーや屋台、ゲームなどが盛りだくさんですが、熊谷の街を這い回って音楽を奏でる日本の伝統的な浮き玉が圧倒的に魅力的です。 フェスティバルには75万人近くの人々が集まります。 2020年と2021年のパンデミックにより、フェスティバルは延期されましたが、2022年までにフェスティバルが大規模な復活を遂げることを誰もが望んでいます。 フェスティバルは7月19日から23日まで開催されます。 明治時代には日本の伝統的なファンが参加者に配布されたことから、このお祭りの名前が付けられました。
The Fan Festival
There is a big festival in Kumagaya called the UchiwaMatsuri, which in English translates to the “Fan Festival”. The Uchiwa Matsuri is considered one of the biggest festivals in all Saitama. There are many live shows, food stands and games featured at the festival, but by far the main attraction at the festival are the traditional Japanese floats or “dashi” that march through the streets of Kumagaya playing music during the festival. The festival attracts nearly 750,000 people. Due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 the festival has been postponed, but everyone is hoping that by 2022 the festival would make a huge comeback. The festival takes place from July 19th to the 23rd. The festival got its name due to the fact that in the meiji period traditional Japanese fans were distributed to the attendees during the festival.
