本庄市は先史時代から人が住んでいます。 この地域には古墳時代の埋葬地が数多く発見されています。 本庄氏は鎌倉時代にこの地域を支配し、江戸幕府の初期には城町と本庄藩を支配し続けました。 本庄藩が抑圧されたとき、町は中山道の郵便局である本庄塾として繁栄し続けました。 この地域は絹の栽培で有名でした。 本庄は1954年7月1日に都市になりました。

Prehistoric city

The city of Honjo has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Many burial grounds from the Kofun period have been found in the area. The Honjo clan dominated the area in the Kamakura period and they continued to rule over a castle town and the Honjo Domain in the early years of the Tokugawa shogunate in Edo times. When the HonjoDomain became suppressed, the town continued to prosper as Honjo juku, a post station of the Nakasendo highway. The area was famous for its cultivation of silk. Honjobecame a city on July 1, 1954.
